Located in Mililani Shopping Center and directed by author Chris McKinney and his wife, Mika McKinney, the Chris McKinney Language Arts Center offers reading and writing classes to children and teens who want to enhance their reading and writing skills and teens and adults who want to learn how to write fiction and screenplays. Here, you and your children can learn reading and writing, not from a generic software tutoring program, but from in-person instruction tailored for students of all skill levels.

Chris McKinney is the author of five novels, The Tattoo, The Queen of Tears, Bolohead Row, Mililani Mauka, and the newly released Boi No Good, and has written a feature film screenplay, Paradise Broken, and a short film, The Back Door, both of which premiered at the 2011 Hawaii International Film Festival. He has a master’s degree in English and over twelve years of teaching experience as an associate professor at Honolulu Community College. He was recently appointed Visiting Distinguished Writer at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Mika McKinney has worked as an art gallery director for Dolphin Galleries at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and was an account executive for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser where she designed, edited, and wrote ads for companies like Turtle Bay Resort, Athena Clinic, Atlas Construction, Wong’s Drapery, Honolulu Burger, Ohana Hearing Care, and State Farm Insurance. She is also a youth leader for Kakaako Christian Fellowship.
